PROJECT PERIOD DAY 14!

Image
TUESDAY, MAY 24- 4:34 PM.  Last blog! Today was a more slow day for my project, yet today  I held a meeting for Green Key Leaders at 11:45 during lunch for around 15 minutes. I read Locking Up Our own for around 15 minutes as well. In the afternoon at around 4:00-4:30 I got interviewed with Ryan, and while doing so I talked a lot about my concentration and how Ocean Classrooms learning objectives tied into my concentration. My total hours for the day was an hour. My total hours for the entire project was 56 hours. Even though I wound down after my exit interview for my concentration, I still found time to work on more hours in the admissions office, which was great and really fun! Thank you for reading about my journey!

PROJECT PERIOD DAY 13!

MONDAY, MAY 23- 8:14 PM.  Hey guys! Today was my fourteenth day working on my project. I had a long day of travel, as I was heading back from Cooperstown, NY where I went this weekend! I got back and worked out, and played tennis for a while. From 6:30-7:00 I went to the Freshman's capstone presentations, listened to them and also told them a bit about my concentration and the concentration program at Proctor, how it benefited me, and the awesome experience and learning it gave me. At night, I wound down and read 'Locking Up Our Own' for thirty minutes. I really enjoy the book, and it is very relevant to my topic. I also coordinated a meeting for all of the Green Key Leaders tomorrow during lunch. My total hours for the day is one hour, so I have totaled to 55 hours so far, so I am doing well with hours. Tomorrow is my last day!

WEEKLY REFLECTION #2

This week I learned a lot more about the admissions process through Alicia and Kate. I learned about how to read an application file, and what Proctor prioritizes in an application. I think it’s interesting how depending on the school, the admissions team prioritizes different things in a student, and I appreciate that Proctor does not put an emphasis on standardized testing, because this does not determine a students capability and worth. Through my concentration coming to a close, I learned how to articulate my knowledge over these past few weeks into a discussion based setting. My concentration taught me that a lot of common social issues today interconnect with one another, and create almost a chain reaction, such as poverty, education, incarceration, etc. I really enjoyed what I learned, and admissions and incarceration, children, and racial issues are all topics I am intrigued by. When I go to college, I definitely want to work in the admissions office, and provide tours. I also ...

PROJECT PERIOD DAY 12-1:28 pm.  FRIDAY, MAY 20TH.  Hello! In the morning, I worked out and read 'Locking Up Our Own' for thirty minutes, for this book is relevant to what I studied in my concentration. Today myself and the other students working in admissions discussed Green key Leader applications, and read over all their applications. We also reviewed the admissions process (parent and student essays, a graded essay, teacher recommendations, and how the SSAT is optional). Alicia talked about how she liked how Proctor Admissions looks at the whole person, and is not just focused on test scores. Along with this, she said that teacher recommendations and the interview are huge. We also reviewed how to look over Neurophysiology evaluations.  My total hours for the day was two hours. So I am now at 54 hours!

SENIOR PROJECT DAY 11

THURSDAY MAY 19-10:04 pm Hi guys! Today was a bit of a less busy day. I woke up went to the library to look over the green key applications and send out a reminder. I talked with Kate for a bit about how the admissions process works at Proctor, and I also told her a lot about my concentration. It was cool to hear all I knew about the topic, and how passionate I truly am about it. I tutored at AEMS from 12-12:30. Me walking to my exit interview:  At 2 o’clock I had my exit interview with Tom, Ellie, and Heidi. It was about an hour long, and it was another moment in the day where I was able to express my interest and knowledge through discussion and not a page, and also learn from them as well, and their own knowledge. Overall I did around 2 hours of my concentration, leaving me with a total of 53 hours.

SENIOR PROJECT DAY 10!

WEDNESDAY, MAY 18- 8:15 pm.  Hey guys! Today was the tenth day of project period, and I am feeling pretty good! I started off the morning with a tour from 9:30-10:30 ish. After that, I finished my narrative reflection, which discussed my main takeaways of this whole pursuit and how I may want to use this information down the line. I read over my concentration many times as well and officially turned that in. That all was from around 10:30 to 12 pm. I then tutored from 5:30-6:30. My total hours for the day was 2 hours and 30 minutes. So my total hours for my project is 51 hours! The two hours around is definitely not as much as my other days, but I still feel accomplished!  Tommorow is my exit interview.

SENIOR PROJECT DAY 9

TUESDAY, MAY 17 2022-10:21pm  Today was a rewarding day! I presented my slides to my sister Katherine from around 8:30-9:00 and then worked on reading through them myself for an hour. At 10:10 I went to culture and conflict and presented my slide. I was nervous at first, but I knew with Ellie’s edits I was prepared! My presentation was around 25 minutes, and I feel as though I conveyed the right amount of information, from such a large research paper, not too much, not too little for a class setting.  After that I read over my essay from 12:00-2:00 to give it final edits. I worked out and had a team dinner in the afternoon. From 7:30-10:00 pm I worked on my narrative reflection which is a set of different questions which provide me the space to reflect on all of my work and what I feel I have gained. Overall my hours today were 7 hours and 30 minutes, and my total is 48 hours and 30 minutes.
