PROJECT PERIOD DAY 14!

Image
TUESDAY, MAY 24- 4:34 PM.  Last blog! Today was a more slow day for my project, yet today  I held a meeting for Green Key Leaders at 11:45 during lunch for around 15 minutes. I read Locking Up Our own for around 15 minutes as well. In the afternoon at around 4:00-4:30 I got interviewed with Ryan, and while doing so I talked a lot about my concentration and how Ocean Classrooms learning objectives tied into my concentration. My total hours for the day was an hour. My total hours for the entire project was 56 hours. Even though I wound down after my exit interview for my concentration, I still found time to work on more hours in the admissions office, which was great and really fun! Thank you for reading about my journey!

PROJECT PERIOD DAY 13!

MONDAY, MAY 23- 8:14 PM.  Hey guys! Today was my fourteenth day working on my project. I had a long day of travel, as I was heading back from Cooperstown, NY where I went this weekend! I got back and worked out, and played tennis for a while. From 6:30-7:00 I went to the Freshman's capstone presentations, listened to them and also told them a bit about my concentration and the concentration program at Proctor, how it benefited me, and the awesome experience and learning it gave me. At night, I wound down and read 'Locking Up Our Own' for thirty minutes. I really enjoy the book, and it is very relevant to my topic. I also coordinated a meeting for all of the Green Key Leaders tomorrow during lunch. My total hours for the day is one hour, so I have totaled to 55 hours so far, so I am doing well with hours. Tomorrow is my last day!

WEEKLY REFLECTION #2

This week I learned a lot more about the admissions process through Alicia and Kate. I learned about how to read an application file, and what Proctor prioritizes in an application. I think it’s interesting how depending on the school, the admissions team prioritizes different things in a student, and I appreciate that Proctor does not put an emphasis on standardized testing, because this does not determine a students capability and worth. Through my concentration coming to a close, I learned how to articulate my knowledge over these past few weeks into a discussion based setting. My concentration taught me that a lot of common social issues today interconnect with one another, and create almost a chain reaction, such as poverty, education, incarceration, etc. I really enjoyed what I learned, and admissions and incarceration, children, and racial issues are all topics I am intrigued by. When I go to college, I definitely want to work in the admissions office, and provide tours. I also ...

PROJECT PERIOD DAY 12

PROJECT PERIOD DAY 12-1:28 pm.  FRIDAY, MAY 20TH.  Hello! In the morning, I worked out and read 'Locking Up Our Own' for thirty minutes, for this book is relevant to what I studied in my concentration. Today myself and the other students working in admissions discussed Green key Leader applications, and read over all their applications. We also reviewed the admissions process (parent and student essays, a graded essay, teacher recommendations, and how the SSAT is optional). Alicia talked about how she liked how Proctor Admissions looks at the whole person, and is not just focused on test scores. Along with this, she said that teacher recommendations and the interview are huge. We also reviewed how to look over Neurophysiology evaluations.  My total hours for the day was two hours. So I am now at 54 hours!

SENIOR PROJECT DAY 11

THURSDAY MAY 19-10:04 pm Hi guys! Today was a bit of a less busy day. I woke up went to the library to look over the green key applications and send out a reminder. I talked with Kate for a bit about how the admissions process works at Proctor, and I also told her a lot about my concentration. It was cool to hear all I knew about the topic, and how passionate I truly am about it. I tutored at AEMS from 12-12:30. Me walking to my exit interview:  At 2 o’clock I had my exit interview with Tom, Ellie, and Heidi. It was about an hour long, and it was another moment in the day where I was able to express my interest and knowledge through discussion and not a page, and also learn from them as well, and their own knowledge. Overall I did around 2 hours of my concentration, leaving me with a total of 53 hours.

SENIOR PROJECT DAY 10!

WEDNESDAY, MAY 18- 8:15 pm.  Hey guys! Today was the tenth day of project period, and I am feeling pretty good! I started off the morning with a tour from 9:30-10:30 ish. After that, I finished my narrative reflection, which discussed my main takeaways of this whole pursuit and how I may want to use this information down the line. I read over my concentration many times as well and officially turned that in. That all was from around 10:30 to 12 pm. I then tutored from 5:30-6:30. My total hours for the day was 2 hours and 30 minutes. So my total hours for my project is 51 hours! The two hours around is definitely not as much as my other days, but I still feel accomplished!  Tommorow is my exit interview.

SENIOR PROJECT DAY 9

Image
TUESDAY, MAY 17 2022-10:21pm  Today was a rewarding day! I presented my slides to my sister Katherine from around 8:30-9:00 and then worked on reading through them myself for an hour. At 10:10 I went to culture and conflict and presented my slide. I was nervous at first, but I knew with Ellie’s edits I was prepared! My presentation was around 25 minutes, and I feel as though I conveyed the right amount of information, from such a large research paper, not too much, not too little for a class setting.  After that I read over my essay from 12:00-2:00 to give it final edits. I worked out and had a team dinner in the afternoon. From 7:30-10:00 pm I worked on my narrative reflection which is a set of different questions which provide me the space to reflect on all of my work and what I feel I have gained. Overall my hours today were 7 hours and 30 minutes, and my total is 48 hours and 30 minutes.

SENIOR PROJECT DAY 8!

MONDAY MAY 16 2022- 11:07 pm.   Today I worked almost the entire day on my concentration. I worked from 9 am to 11 pm at night. I took a break for lunch and meals of course, but otherwise than that I was working on editing, tweaking, adding some last minute information and creating my slides for my presentation tomorrow in Culture in Conflict!  Ellie was very helpful today, and she helped me edit my paper from 12 pm-3 pm in the dining hall. We then had study hall and I worked from 3:00-5:00. I got back to my dorm and have been working from 6-11:00. I did not expect the editing and the slides to take me as long as they did, and I hope they all look good. I really appreciate all of Ellie’s help in this process, and I look forward to presenting it tomorrow. My total hours for the day was 11 hours. My total hours so far for my project is now 41 hours.

Weekly Reflection

MAY 15, 2022, 9:31 PM.  This week I learned a multitude of new skills, and I got a taste of what it feels like to work in an ‘office’ environment of sorts, such as the Admissions Office. Coming into senior project, I expected my project to be relatively predictable, as I knew I would be finishing my concentration, giving tours, and helping with other necessary tasks in the admissions office. Yet, I did not predict that I would love the admissions office so much! Giving tours is such a rewarding, and reflective experience for me. Talking about my school to prospective students makes me realize how grateful I am to be provided with the opportunities given here, and surrounded by all of these amazing people. Although writing my research paper is not always fun, the end is in sight and I am extremely excited for all of the hard work to pay off, and to feel so knowledgeable in a subject as important as the one I am discussing. I was not expecting the annotated bibliography to take...

SENIOR PROJECT DAY 7

SATURDAY, MAY 14, 2022. 8:49 pm. On Saturday from 8:30-9:30 I gave a tour to a large group of parents and kids from Canada which was fun! Then from 9:00-12:00 I worked on my concentration some more. I am still doing all my annotated bibliography’s. I am about halfway done at this point with annotating them.  So my total hours for Saturday was 4 hours. This means that my total hours for the week has been 30 hours and 10 minutes so far. I feel as though this is solid progress, and that I am on the right track to gain my remaining 25 hours!

SENIOR PROJECT day 6

FRIDAY MAY 13, 2022, 9:29 PM.  Hi everyone! Today was the 6th day of Project period. I started working in the dining hall at around 8:30 and was there for a bit before I headed to assembly to make a green key leader announcement for admissions. After this assembly, I went back to work until around 12 o’clock ( I took a break for lunch). I am still tediously working on citations, and also adding solutions to the problems I presented in my paper. I had a game where I was gone from 2-8 pm, but I got back and worked on my paper from 8-9:30 pm as well.  I sent out the green key leader application to students today which is exciting. My total hours for the day was around 5 hours.  Over the past 6 days, I have done 27 hours and 10 minutes of work.

SENIOR PROJECT day 5!

THURSDAY MAY 12, 2022, 10:01 PM.   Hi guys! Today was a busy day. I started off with a tour around 10:10, which ended around 11:30 ish. I then worked on my concentration from 11:45 to 1 pm, and headed to my next tour around campus. That ended around 2:10. I definitely got my steps in around campus today!  From 2:15 to 5 o’clock I worked on my concentration, and making sure I was properly introducing all of my quotes, and seeing if I can add more information about solutions.  Then from 8-9 pm I worked in my dorm on my concentration more. I hope tomorrow brings the same level of productivity. My total hours for the day was around 6 hours and 30 minutes Over the past five days, I have done 21 hours and 40 minutes of work.  .

SENIOR PROJECT: Day 4!

MAY 11, 2022, 8:47 PM.  Today was another awesome day on project period. I started off the morning in the DH at 9 am for about an hour, looking over the comments Kristen provided me, which were really helpful. I worked till about 12 o'clock on just editing my paper. Then I had to head to my game, and got back around 8 o'clock. I am currently at Ellie's extra help, and working on my essay for an hour from 8:30- 9:30 pm. My total hours for the day were four hours.  I wish I could have gotten in more but travel time from the game lasted from 2 to 8 pm. I am getting used to annotated bibliographies, and trying to add in more solutions to my research, instead of just speaking about the negatives.  Over the past four days, I have done 15 hours and 10 minutes of work.

Senior project: Day 3!

Image
TUESDAY MAY 10, 2022, 8:48 PM.    Hi guys! Today was the third day of my senior project and everything went very smoothly! I started off the day at around 9 am in the library and worked in there with Cam and Katherine until around 11 o’clock when I took a break for lunch and then headed back for about an hour to the library before I went to admissions for a bit. That was about 3 hours.  At around 12:30 I went over to the admissions office to work with Alicia in getting a few things done. No tour today, but we focused on crafting an assembly announcement for Friday, and created a spreadsheet for those interested in being a part of the Green Key leader group for next year! I spent a solid hour there, and then went onto the rest of my day with a workout.  Before my game at 5, I worked in the library for 45 minutes making edits to my paper and adding some cites to my annotated bibliography:) Later on, around 8:45-9:00 pm I worked on adding some more cites to my bibliogra...

Senior project day 2!

Image
MONDAY, MAY 9 2022. 7:18 pm.   Today was technically the first day of senior project! My day started off with a concentration meeting in the library with Heidi and Tom at 9 am. We reviewed our schedule, ate some Tuckers, and learned how to check out a book at the Proctor library! I found a great book resource for my paper, “Locking Up Our Own” by James Forman Jr. I read the book for around 30 minutes, while collecting quotes. I also worked more on my annotated bibliography. So from around 10:30-12:30 I worked on my paper, and definitely made progress and got some good edits in! For the Admissions portion of my project, I gave a tour from around 1:30-2:40! I haven’t given a tour in a while, so I’m excited to get back into the swing of touring students, and learning more fundamental skills that the admissions office work will provide.  From 7:30-9 I will be working on touching up my concentration, and reading more of the new book I found and seeing if I can add in some of t...

Nora Flanagan's first day of Senior Project (Mini day)

Image
MAY 7 2022, 12:55 PM.  Hello everyone! For my senior project I am finishing my research paper for my concentration, while also working in the admissions office. Today is my first day doing my senior project! As a senior class, we had a meeting at 10 am in the meeting house with Kelly, but I got started editing my concentration paper before hand. I'm trying to have my paper in pretty good shape by early next week, so these are the days to work! Although not super exciting, here is me editing my paper for around an hour and a half this morning. I made some progress, which was great!  Total hours: 1 hour and 30 minutes.
