Weekly Reflection

 MAY 15, 2022, 9:31 PM.

This week I learned a multitude of new skills, and I got a taste of what it feels like to work in an ‘office’ environment of sorts, such as the Admissions Office. Coming into senior project, I expected my project to be relatively predictable, as I knew I would be finishing my concentration, giving tours, and helping with other necessary tasks in the admissions office. Yet, I did not predict that I would love the admissions office so much! Giving tours is such a rewarding, and reflective experience for me. Talking about my school to prospective students makes me realize how grateful I am to be provided with the opportunities given here, and surrounded by all of these amazing people. Although writing my research paper is not always fun, the end is in sight and I am extremely excited for all of the hard work to pay off, and to feel so knowledgeable in a subject as important as the one I am discussing. I was not expecting the annotated bibliography to take so long, but I realize for the next time I write a research paper, I will not be using so many different sources when I begin my research. Not only this, but I did not realize how fast the days go by, and how important it is to use all the time allotted, because I realize I need all of it I can get. I was also not expecting to love giving tours as much as I do. Although it can be slightly draining repeating the same information to group’s of different people, the repetition of it, and getting better each time I give a tour is gratifying.

I learned about the value of interaction with a variety of people. From providing so many tours, to adults, students, to citizens from Canada, I have had the opportunity to speak to a lot of people, and learn about their backgrounds, which I believe is one of the best ways to learn about the world around you. I think providing tours in general will benefit my overall social skills, and I hope I can continue working in admissions at some point in my four-year college career. I think working in admissions now will help me with getting this role in college, and being successful in it as well. Working in the admissions office, and having to be so diligent in my concentration is providing me with the skills of time management, planning ahead, and interacting with a variety of people.
