WEEKLY REFLECTION #2

This week I learned a lot more about the admissions process through Alicia and Kate. I learned about how to read an application file, and what Proctor prioritizes in an application. I think it’s interesting how depending on the school, the admissions team prioritizes different things in a student, and I appreciate that Proctor does not put an emphasis on standardized testing, because this does not determine a students capability and worth. Through my concentration coming to a close, I learned how to articulate my knowledge over these past few weeks into a discussion based setting. My concentration taught me that a lot of common social issues today interconnect with one another, and create almost a chain reaction, such as poverty, education, incarceration, etc. I really enjoyed what I learned, and admissions and incarceration, children, and racial issues are all topics I am intrigued by. When I go to college, I definitely want to work in the admissions office, and provide tours. I also want to major in Political Science as well, and my concentration holds relevance to this topic.

While meeting with Alicia, we were talking about her conference in Philadelphia, and we discussed how there are just so many schools out there, and I was vocalizing how grateful I was that out of all the boarding schools out there I chose Proctor. Giving tours these past few weeks has really brought this gratitude to life. Speaking about my school, and really going into depth about the experiences and opportunities I've had my past four years always makes me emotional and thankful. I am a strong advocate for Proctor! Everything pretty much happened as expected this week. I was more nervous for the exit interview than I should have been, because it was really just a time to answer some questions, and really talk about my work in a more casual setting. From this past week’s activities I have gained the ability to articulate my knowledge better, and I've gained more hours under my belt learning how to communicate with a number of people, and learning more about admissions before I possibly work in an admissions office in college. This past week has helped me reach my goal of completing my concentration, which is a very rewarding feeling. I have reached the goal of being able to articulate my knowledge on a topic better, whether this was through my research paper, or giving tour's on all that Proctor has to provide.
